Gardening for Wildlife

Steve Millam

Steve will talk about how to select plants to ensure you get flowers for pollinators all year round.  He will also explain what features can be incorporated into your garden to attract wildlife, how to convert your garden, how to attract butterflies and moths and encourage them to breed in your garden.  Steve will also tell us what native Sussex wildflowers can be used for all seasons.

Steve studied horticulture at Writtle College before doing a degree in Plant Biology in London and a PhD studying oilseed rape in Wolverhampton.  For 20 years, Steve was a scientist in Scotland working in a potato breeding team before returning to his ‘roots’ by becoming a lecturer in horticulture at Brinsbury College.  Here, he was part of a team who won medals at Chelsea, Hampton Court and the ideal Home Show (3 consecutive gold medals and ‘Best in Show’).
