Vegetables in Containers – Barry Newman, National Vegetable Society

Barry will talk about the range of fruit and vegetables which can be grown in containers.  As a small boy, he thought digging for potatoes on his Dad’s allotment was like finding hidden treasure and this sparked his lifelong love of vegetable growing.  Barry will give advice on the types of containers which can be used together with details of what compost to use, what seeds to sow and how to look after them.  You will probably be surprised at the number of crops which can be grown successfully in containers.

Barry is a well-known grower, exhibitor, lecturer and judge.  He is Vice-Chairman of the RHS’s Fruit, Vegetable & Herb Committee and a former Chairman of the National Vegetable Society.  He is also a Britain in Bloom judge.  He trained in horticulture at Pershore, York and Bath and is still a committed allotmenteer at his home in Littleworth, West Sussex.
